Perthshire Theatre Breaks

Our great holiday packages offer great-value short theatre breaks with accommodation, food, and concert tickets.

The Watcher. 7.30pm, 9 - 20 January 2007 Birnam Institute. Come to a Scottish evening of music and drama, with the Birnam Institute Players presenting George Mackay Brown's play, The Watcher. A story of a stranger, whose appearance changes the life of a Scottish fishing community. The evening will also feature Birnam's community singing group, Just Singin'. Talented young Gaelic singers and performers from our local primary schools will complete the celebratory evening which is not to be missed.

Essential Scottish Opera 2007. 8pm, 25 January 2007 Birnam Institute. Whether you're a musical maestro or if you've never been to an opera in your life but you'd like to give it a try, then Essential Scottish Opera 2007 is the ideal show for you. Scotland's national opera company visits Birnam where four talented singers and a pianist will transport you from the coldest, darkest part of the year to exotic locations. You'll be introduced to colourful characters giving vent to fiery passions and moving you to tears with just a few props, the power and beauty of their voices and some of the most wonderful music ever composed. Well-known highlights featuring in this year's Essential will be arias from Tosca, The Barber of Seville and Rigoletto, to name just three. As long as you enjoy being superbly entertained then you'll enjoy Essential Scottish Opera 2007.

Stairwell Sisters. 8pm. 02 February 2007 Birnam Institute. The Stairwell Sisters, five sassy good-time gals, are currently the hottest act on America's old-time and bluegrass music circuit. Reviewers have been having great fun trying to describe what it is that makes this such an entertaining show. They've been called "rowdy, wild and funky" and like "a hurricane". Serving up energetic musicianship, tight vocal arrangements and red-hot buckdancing, this is a kicking quintet. From the company who brought out the sell out shows Laura Boosinger and The Crooked Road, come and experience The Stairwell Sisters.

Boothby Graffoe. 8pm. 17 February 2007 Birnam Institute. It's been an incredible year for Graffoe, performing to sell-out crowds at the Edinburgh Festival, writing more new plays for Radio 4, and traveling across the world with his unique line in musical comedy. Graffoe's surreal, sharp and often improvised comedy is winning him a region of fans around the world.

The Man Who Planted Trees. 2pm. 19 February 2007. One of the top-rated shows at the Edinburgh Fringe 2006, this is a hilarious and heart-warming adaptation of Jean Giono's wonderful environmental tale. Accompanied by his faithful dog, a French shepherd sets out to plant a forest and transform a barren landscape. Hear the wind, feel the rain, smell the lavender in this multi-sensory masterpiece. A uniquely memorable blend of comedy, puppetry and inspiring storytelling. For adults and children aged 5+.
